Brown Rice Syrup & Cinnamon Applesauce

Is it OK if I go on a rant for a second?   Does anyone eat Skinny Pop?  If your anything like me and you saw skinny in the title I’m sure you bought it by the boat loads.  The truth is, it’s not skinny at all!  Have you ever looked at he nutritional facts on the back of the bag?  Look here…

Let’s talk about this.  First, let me preface this by saying it’s the big Costco bag.  Needless to say, the serving size is 4 cups.  The fat grams for 4 cups of popcorn is 10!  That is ridiculous!!  There is nothing skinny about Skinny Pop.  If you want my advice, go to Bed Bath & Beyond and purchase this popcorn popper, use a little olive oil or other healthy fat and you are way better off!!!  I own one myself and I love it.  There are no added preservatives and you can experiment with different herbs or seasonings.

I love a sinful treat just as much as the next, but I get much more satisfaction by creating something that tastes sinful and wont leave you feeling guilty.  I experimented with a cinnamon applesauce last night and I think it’s pretty delicious, let me know what you think.


Brown Rice Syrup & Cinnamon Applesauce
  • 4 Honey Crisp apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 Asian Pears, peeled and chopped
  • ¼ cup Brown Rice Syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp.  fresh lemon juice
  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine chopped fruit with brown rice syrup, cinnamon, and lemon juice over medium heat.  Cover, and simmer for 12 minutes.  Take lid off and continue to cook 10 minutes or so, stirring occasionally to break up apple pieces.  Remove from heat and mash slightly with a potato masher or if you like a smoother texture use an immersion blender.  Cool and store in a glass jar in the fridge.
